The Artist at Home

I grew up in Lincoln, Massachusetts, one of many middle children in a large, eventually multiracial family. Music was a big part of family life; most of us played at least one instrument and everyone sang. I studied classical cello as a child, teenager and young adult; and I sang lead and played blues harmonica with a semi-serious band during high school. My influences also include folk songs, square dance music, church hymns, and AM Schlock.

I've been performing music since I was a boy soprano in church; I've been writing and performing my own songs since 2001, both solo and with The Groove Pops (check out our MySpace page!). My best songs feature melodic, sometimes quirky tunes with lyrics that take a wry slant on such “serious” topics as mortality, the hereafter, and the vicissitudes of love. In late 2008, I began organizing the "Acoustic Showcase" in Lexington -- a free, twice monthly presentation of local musical talent.

I have a BFA in Sculpture from RISD, and an MFA in Visual Arts from UCSD. Following my MFA I taught art and writing and worked as a professional artist. After a year in Eastern Europe in the early 1990s I returned to school and subsequently received a doctorate in clinical psychologist. I live west of Boston with my wife and son.
