The Artist at Home
|
I grew up west of Boston, one of many middle children in a large, eventually multiracial family. Music was a big part of growing up; many of us played at least one instrument and everyone sang. Classical, folk, square dance, church, AM schlock, blues, rock and pop all influenced me.
I went to college, went to art school, lived in California, got married, lived in Eastern Europe, returned, completed more school, and settled in suburbia for better or worse. I've had various professions so far: sculptor and performing artist (the reviews quoted on the home page come from that period), art teacher, writing teacher, and now clinical psychologist.
I've been performing music since I was a boy soprano in church; I've been writing and performing my own songs for a few years now, both solo and with The Groove Pops (check out our MySpace page!). My songs pull from all my influences. I tend to write melodic, at times quirky tunes; the lyrics are playful, serious, crafted, but (I hope) never overwrought.
Take a listen, and let me know what you think!
